Bengaluru, Feb 22 Several ministers and MLAs belonging to the Panchamasali sub-sect of the Lingayat community came together to show their support for Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on the reservation issue. This comes after a mega rally took place on Sunday at the Palace Ground in the city where seers along with MLAs came forward to demand that their community gets the 2A reservation. Murugesh Nirani, mines and geology minister said that the Panchamasali sub-sect of the Lingayat community comprises of 80 lakh people out of the 6.5 crore population in the state. "Many are suffering since they are farmers and have not got much from the government," he said, adding that it was during Yediyurappa's previous term in 2008 that the community was put in the 3B category. He believes that since it's their government in power, they will be able to help them get their due. On Sunday, CC Patil and Murgesh Nirani, both of whom are ministers, along with MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, addressed the rally along with Congress leader Vijayanand Kashappanavar, president of Panchamasali Mahasabha. However, they took offence to Yatnal by saying he was trying to misuse the situation. Yatnal even said that he will raise the issue on March 4 at the beginning of the Budget session. To this, minister CC Patil argued that he has the liberty to raise the issue since he also is an assembly member. "Government will give a suitable answer to his questions," he added. At present, Panchamasalis are categorised in 3B subdivision under the Backward Class (BC) category and are demanding inclusion in the 2A subdivision which offers 15 per cent reservation in education and employment. CM Yediyurappa has already referred the matter to the Backward Classes Commission.
