New Delhi, Feb 21 India great Sunil Gavaskar believes that veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin will not able to make a comeback in Team India's limited-overs squad. Gavaskar pointed out that Ashwin doesn't fit in the limited-overs squad due to the current team balance which is strengthened by the presence of Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya. Ashwin last played a limited-overs game for India in July 2017, following which he and Jadeja were overlooked for the shorter formats with wrist-spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Chahal replacing the finger-spinners. Jadeja was able to make a comeback but Ashwin hasn't. "I somehow don't think he will now make a comeback in the Indian limited-overs team because India have found in Hardik Pandya the all-rounder at No.7, there is Ravindra Jadeja and then they will have three seamers or maybe one spinner and twoseamers," Sunil Gavaskar told Star Sports. Though Gavaskar doesn’t see Ashwin playing white-ball cricket, he backed the veteran cricketer to feature in the Test games for India for at least half a dozen years more. "I don't think he will fit into the squad at the moment and therefore, he will be a Test match player for the next half a dozen years at least," Gavaskar added. Notably, Ashwin, India's Test specialist spinner for the last few years, has taken 150 wickets from 111 One Day Internationals and 52 wickets in 46 T20I matches. Although, Ashwin continues to rule the record books with his stellar red-ball performances for India. India will next face England in the third match, which will be a pink-ball Test, starting from February 24 in Ahmedabad.
