Two back-to-back resignations by Congress, DMK MLAs deepen Puducherry assembly crisis

Chennai, Feb 21 Hours after Congress MLA Lakshmi Narayanan resigned from Puducherry Legislative Assembly, DMK MLA K Venkatesan has also resigned from his post. The two back-to-back resginations come one day ahead of the Puducherry government's floor test. The number of MLAs supporting Puducherry Chief Minister Narayanswamy's government has now come down to 12. Last week, five MLAs had also tendered their resignation. With two more MLA adding to the growing number of resignations on Sunday, the Puducherry government is headed towards a big crisis. Day after Puducherry Lt Governor Tamilisai Soundararjan ordered a floor test for the Congress government in the union territory to prove the majority in view of a spate of resignations by the ruling party MLAs, CM Narayanasamy claimed it was the opposition which does not have adequate numbers.
