Protesting farmers being misled by Opposition: Hema Malini

Agra, Jan 15 Most protesting farmers have not even read the Centre’s three agriculture laws and are being misled by Opposition parties, actor and BJP MP from Mathura, Hema Malini, said in an interview with India Today. If farmers read the laws, they will realise they are for their benefits, she added. “The Congress also wanted to bring the same reforms at one time and is now opposing them just for the sake of opposing every reform introduced by the Modi government,” Hema Malini said. Thousands of farmers, mainly from Punjab, have been protesting at Delhi’s borders for more than 50 days now. Several rounds of talks between them and the government have failed to break the deadlock. While farmers want the laws repealed, the government is ready only for amendments. The Supreme Court has, for now, stayed the laws and formed a committee for mediation between both sides. Senior citizen Imamuddin said that the matter is not as simple as Hema Malini would like people to believe. “The fact is that both the farmers and the government are not ready to understand each other's demands,” he said. He said that farmer leaders are breaking the law through their protests and now want to disrupt the Republic Day parade by taking out a parallel tractor rally, which was a foolhardy proposal and will only bring a bad name to the farming community. Imamuddin said the matter should be resolved before Republic Day. Social activist Deep Sharma said that the government should have tried to resolve this matter out of the court. “We hope the stalemate will end before January 26 so that the country's image can be saved from being tarnished all over the world,” he said.
