New Delhi, Jan 13 It's a Deol-purpose political family from India's agricultural heartland Punjab. Veteran actor Dharmendra, his wife BJP MP Hema Malini and son BJP legislator Sunny Deol -- all in the family have a different take on farm laws. While the senior Deol, who has for decades cultivated a son of the soil image, extended support for "farmer brothers", the BJP MP from Mathura reacted with derision to the farmers' protest. Their son, however, towed an almost middle path - standing both with his party and with farmers. The Supreme Court on Tuesday put a hold on the implementation of the Centre's farm laws passed in Parliament in September. Farmers have been protesting against the three farm laws at the borders of the national Capital for over a month now. Hema Malini has said the farmers protesting against the Centre's farm laws do not even know what they want and that they are agitating on someone's direction. "They (agitating farmers) do not even know what they want and what is the problem with the farm laws. It shows that they are doing this because someone asked them to do it," actor-turned-politician Hema Malini told ANI. Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party took a swipe at Hema Malini and tweeted her picture, saying she is "the only farmer who doesn't understand the problem with the farm laws." A little back in 2019 ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, seeking re-election from her constituency Mathura, Hema Malini was seen harvesting crop in a wheat farm and driving a tractor during campaigning. The villagers in Govardhan area of Mathura were quite amused, but the Opposition was definitely not. Born as Dharam Singh Deol in Nasrali, a village in Punjab's Ludhiana district, Dharmendra has a penchant for farming. In a video posted on Instagram a year and a half ago, Dharmendra revealed how happy the farms make him. Most of the farmers in the ongoing protest are from Punjab and Haryana. The protesting farmer unions fear that the new legislations have left them at the mercy of corporates by weakening the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and mandi systems.
