BJP slams Kalyan over controversial remarks on Sita, disciples of Ram

New Delhi, Jan 11 The BJP and the TMC have locked horns again over comments loaded with religious sentiments. After TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee compared "the chelas of Ram" to alleged rapists of Hathras incident in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP has slammed the parliamentarian and his party. The BJP has called the remarks as "distasteful" and wondered whether Kalyan Banerjee said so "to appease one community". BJP leader and Union minister Prahlad Patel said, "The TMC is rattled. The people are ready to give [the TMC] a befitting reply. This is what shows in the comments." "People like [Kalyan] Banerjee are forgetting the dignity of language. It is meaningless to offer such people any advice. But if elected representatives use such unparliamentary language, there should be ways to hold them accountable," Patel said. BJP general secretary inchage of West Bengal, Kailash Vijayvargiya said, "This kind of rubbish is said by rubbish people They should go to a psychiatrist." Addressing a public meeting on Saturday in Howrah, Kalyan Banerjee said, "Sita goes to Ram and tells him, it's good that Ravan abducted me. Had your chelas (disciples), who raise the slogan of Jai Shree Ram and wear saffron, my condition would have been same as the Hathras victim." A 19-year-old Dalit woman was allegedly gangraped last year in the Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh. She was grievously injured and died due to severe injuries to her neck and spine. Responding to the remarks made by the Lok Sabha MP, BJP's Amit Malviya said, "TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee used derogatory language against Sita-mata. Claims that she told Bhagwaan Ram, "thank God, I was abducted by Ravan and not by your chelas or else my fate would have been same as Hathras victim! (sic)" Malviya said, "Is trampling on Hindu sentiment Pishi's idea of appeasement?.
