New Delhi, Jan 11 Locals in Delhi are yet to take the bird flu threat seriously even as the city has reported several positive cases among crows and ducks. The national capital, a popular spot for the migrant birds during the winter, has become the ninth state in the country to be hit by the bird flu, also known as avian influenza. The bird flu, caused by the variants H5N1 virus, affects birds but is known to have affected humans in the past. At least two cases of dead crows in the residential colonies were reported on Monday. A crow was found dead in Vijay Mandal Park in Malviya Nagar and another was found at Greater Kailash Enclave 1. After the confirmation, the authorities ordered a temporary closure of the parks as a precautionary measure. However, residents near the park seem to be least concerned with the virus. Speaking to India Today TV, Sarvodaya Enclave RWA General Secretary Shefali Agarwal said that the authorities had closed Vijay Mandal Park after the discovery of the dead crow. But they had to reopen it within hours as local residents became rowdy and demanded that the park is reopened.
