Karnal, Jan 11 Despite the claims made by the farmers' unions that their protest against the three farm laws is peaceful, there are nearly a dozen instances where the farmer-protesters indulged in violence. Kaimla in Karnal district of Haryana witnessed violence on Sunday during protest against the farm laws. Local farmers complained that their standing crop of wheat over an area of 10 to 12 acres was damaged by about a thousand protestors. They told India Today TV that a sizable chunk of the protesters, who caused the damage and dug up the helipad were not farmers but outsiders. "Protesters were holding wooden sticks, sharp edged weapons and black flags," an eyewitness said. The affected farmers have now demanded a compensation for the crop damage. The protesters did not allow Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to hold Kisan Mahapanchayat in Kaimla, Karnal in Sunday. Khattar was to address the mahapanchayat, where he was likely to list out the benefits of contentious agriculture laws to the farmers.
