Jammu, Nov 23 Providing the most glaring example of abuse of public exchequer for promotion of a particular political party, Harsh Dev Singh JKNPP Chairman and Former Minister today lambasted the govt for refusing adequate security cover to opposition leaders while providing police escorts to even petty workers of BJP. He said that Police administration was behaving as B-team of BJP with huge paraphernalia of police personal and security vehicles provided to BJP leaders for campaigning in DDC elections while declining even the minimum required security cover to the leaders of opposition leaders. The highly partisan conduct of the Police authorities had not only posed a serious threat to the lives of the opposition leaders but had discouraged many of them from participating in electoral process due to extremely hostile conditions and threats of anti national and other criminal elements, he revealed. He was addressing a press conference in Jammu today while admitting Som Nath, Senior Vice President Jammu Province, PHE Employees Association in NPP today alongwith thousands of his supporters. Seeking personal indulgence of the Lt Governor and President of India, Singh said that the existing regime in J&K was not only openly supporting the BJP in DDC elections but had refused to entertain even the genuine concerns of opposition as also their complaints regarding abuse of official machinery by ruling party candidates. Not only were the security personnel being deployed with lower rung workers of BJP on pick and choose basis but those facing terrorist threats were being ignored and denied requisite security. This not only amounted to abuse of authority by security wing of police but was also a violation of the guidelines of ECI categorically assuring a level playing field to all parties and candidates irrespective of their political affiliations, said Singh. Seeking a high level probe into the whole gamut of security allotment, Singh called for punitive action against the officers who were acting more as BJP servants than public servants. He said that non adherence to any set of norms and differential treatment of political parties by abusing of public exchequer and conferring benefits upon favourities was not only a crime but a financial scam which needed due attention of the Lt. Governor and Chief Secretary of the UT. While welcoming Som Nath, a prominent trade union leader into the party fold, Prof.Bhim Singh, Harsh Dev Singh and Balwant Singh Mankotia re-iterated the party’s resolve to continue the struggle for the lower rung employees including DRWs, casuals, contractuals and other under employed and un-employed youth fighting for justice. The NPP leaders appealed the people to oppose, expose and depose those who had betrayed their mandate. NPP was the only viable alternative in the present circumstances which could ensure justice to all deprived classes without fear or favour, they claimed.
