Rajneesh Kour, IGNOU B.Ed Coordinator of RS Pura and Purmandal Zone during an interaction with Young Bites correspondent Pooja Thakur shares her opinion on women empowerment. Q. Are women empowered? RK: The women who reside in urban areas are empowering and soon all women will be empowered but the women from rural areas are not much aware of their Rights and the welfare schemes run by the government for their upliftment. There are some drawbacks in the welfare schemes launched by the government as the administration has failed to implement the schemes on the grass-root level. As an educationalist, I want to suggest that the administration should organize interactive counseling sessions not only for students but for parents too. Parents play an important role in the upbringing of a child and they are the first who decide career for the newborn. Q. What was your experience as a journalist? RK: When I was a journalist, few females were working in electronic media. But now the time has changed, women excel in all fields. There are more female reporters as compared to males. Women are giving tough competition to men. I am an introvert because of my nature I was so hesitant during interviews as most of the males were present and used to stare at me and gossip behind my back. It is time to change our mentality and we should support our future generation to achieve their goals. Only we as parents can break stereotypes of society. Q. What are common grievances of students? RK: The main issue we are facing now is a network issue, as the 4G is banned in Jammu and Kashmir. Due to COVID- 19 the schools will remain shut and the govt has issued an order to conduct online classes but due to poor connectivity, it is difficult to conduct online classes because not every student can afford broadband. The main reason behind starting IGNOU is to provide distance education in which one can earn and learn at the same time. I want to say that there should be more numbers of sub-centers so that we can increase our reach and provide education to the far-flung areas.
