Jammu/Johannesburg Aug 09 A prominent theatre organization of Delhi 'Robroo' showcased eminent theatre director and playwright Padamshree Balwant Thakur in it's high profiled series 'Shaksiyat' on social media platforms here this evening. Unfolding the enterprising and aspiring journey of Balwant Thakur who created history by reaching the top positions of art and culture was very able moderated by the known broadcaster of All India Radio Delhi Kajal Suri. In a very dramatic manner, Balwant Thakur described his eventful career which featured a lot of such anecdotes which were not known yet. The entire description was so interesting that this programme might have inspired thousands to take up theatre and arts as a full-time profession. When enquired about the state of cultural affairs in the UT of J&K, Balwant Thakur bluntly informed that art and culture had never been the priority of successive governments in this part of the world. Had there been culture being the priority the things would have been different. There have been the occasions when negligible initiatives were taken and the results on ground were amazing. In a conflict zone like ours, there have to be concrete plans in place for the intellectual engagement of younger generations through art and cultural endeavours. Culture has a major role in bringing peace but the same aspect has been ignored for the reasons best known to the people sitting in the hierarchy. Discussing theatre and role of Natrang Jammu he said that Natrang brought this region into National and International limelight and also demonstrated the fact that in addition to the natural beauty this place also offers immense cultural diversity which can be the ultimate world tourism attraction. He desired theatre to grow more professionally in J&K as it has the potential to shape civic life. Community engagement in theatre and arts can shape up future generations. We need to take examples from the developed world where an art is not only the pillars of their economy but are also playing significant roles in shaping up societies.
