Chennai, Aug 6 Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) chief MK Stalin on Thursday issued a statement asking the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) government to do away with the system of 'epasses' to travel across districts in Tamil Nadu. The DMK chief questioned that while the Centre has done away with the system of epasses then why is the Tamil Nadu government still holding on to it. Stalin said the system of e-passes "harasses" the people who are now trying to sustain their livelihood. "Now, in the fifth month of lockdown in Tamil Nadu, while several relaxations are in place, why is it that the e-pass system hasn't been done away with? Stalin said in his statement. He added that the people are finding it difficult to move from one district to another even for emergencies. "Although it has been announced that people will get e-passes for marriages, emergencies and funerals, people have had their e-passes get rejected multiple times. Some have applied ten times to have it rejected," said MK Stalin. In the statement, the DMK Chief also highlighted that the e-pass system has affected livelihoods of workers in the unorganised sector, private sector, micro and medium business owners and people.
