Bhubaneshwar, July 7 A government doctor in Odisha’s Sundergarh has been arrested for illegally terminating the pregnancy of a 13- year-old rape survivor, police confirmed. The doctor, identified as Debasish Ghosh, had allegedly terminated the minor girl's pregnancy at Birmitrapur Community Health Centre (CHC) on June 15 at the behest of the rape accused. The minor girl became pregnant after she was allegedly raped by Birmitrapur police station Inspector-In-Charge (IIC) Ananda Majhi. He also forced the doctor to forcefully terminate the pregnancy of the minor survivor. On the night of June 14, the minor survivor, who was over eight months pregnant, was found roaming in Birmitrapur town, according to sources. She was rescued by the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) after locals initially spotted her. The matter came to light when the 13-year-old girl claimed that she was gangraped and impregnated. This prompted the CWC to initiate an inquiry into the matter. A case was then registered in this regard at the Raibaga police station on June 22 after the intervention of district collector. Later, the accused IIC Ananda Chandra Majhi was arrested on July 1 for his alleged involvement in the rape and termination of pregnancy. A team of the Odisha Crime Branch then held an interrogation of Debasish Ghosh, following which he was arrested today. Ghosh has accepted his crime and added that some policemen brought her to Birmitrapur CHCII.
