Kolkata, July 7 Akhlaque Ahmed, 42, is busy controlling traffic on one of the most congested areas of central Kolkata. Akhlaque has spent 21 years in service in the Kolkata Police. This year, however, is different. Kolkata Police sergeant Akhlaque Ahmed has not only returned to duty after winning the battle against coronavirus, he has also donated plasma for Covid- 19 patients. With this, he has became the first police officer in the state to have donated his plasma for clinical trial in the ongoing plasma therapy. From March, Akhlaque, presently posted in Bowbazar Police Station, was involved in distribution of food, feeding the poor in the area, helping those in distress and helped migrant labours return home. Akhlaque, however, tested positive for the novel coronavirus in March. After fighting and winning the battle against coronavirus, Akhlaque donated his plasma. “I am really proud that I have donated plasma. The only reason behind this was to save the lives of my colleagues and my country- men. I have fought with coronavirus and recovered and joined my duty. One of my friends from Calcutta medical college and hospital asked me if I want to donate plasma.
