6 dead, 17 injured in explosion at boiler in TN

Chennai, July 1 A massive explosion has been reported at a boiler in Neyveli lignite plant in Tamil Nadu. At least six people have died while 17 others are injured in the blast at the boiler in Tamil Nadu. Many have been rushed to the NLC hospital following the explosion. The blast took place at a boiler of Neyveli Lignite Corporation in Cuddalore. NLC has their own fire-fighting teams who have rushed to the rescue operations following the blast. Rescue teams from Cuddalore district administration has also reached the spot to assess the situation. Cause of the blast is yet to be ascertained. M. Sree Abhinav, Cuddalore Superintendent of Police confirmed that the death toll has gone up to 6 while 17 other have been injured in the explosion at a boiler of Neyveli lignite plant. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has expressed grief at the deaths. In a series of tweets, Amit Shah said, "Anguished to learn about the loss of lives due to a blast at Neyveli power plant boiler in Tamil Nadu. Have spoken to Tamil Nadu CM and assured all possible help." He also said that CRPF is already on the spot to assist the relief work. Tamil Nadu CM E Palaniswami has announce a compensation of Rs 3 lakh to each of the victims' families while Rs 1 lakh will be given to those who suffered severe injuries and Rs 50,000 for others who were injured in the blast. The mishap occurred at the fifth unit of the thermal power station-II (210 MW x 7) in Neyveli when workers were in the process of resuming operations this morning. "Two men died on the spot. Some workers are feared trapped and 16 others have sustained injuries," the official told PTI adding the injured have been rushed to a hospital in Chennai. This is the second such blast in Tamil Nadu since May. On May 7, five people were killed in a similar blast.
