AIIMS IN PIPELINE, PEOPLE EAGERLY WAITING FOR ITS COMPLETION

The Central Government had announced that All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Jammu and AIIMS Kashmir will be completed in January 2023 and January 2025 respectively. The establishment of new AIIMS will serve the dual purpose of providing super specialty health care to the population closer to their homes, while also help create a large pool of doctors and other health workers in this region that can be available for primary and secondary level institutions being created under National Health Mission. Each new AIIMS will add 100 UG (MBBS) seats and 60 B.Sc (Nursing) seats, and will have 15-20 super specialty departments. The All India Institutes of Medical Sciences are a group of autonomous government public medical colleges of higher education. These institutes have been declared by an Act of Parliament as Institutes of National Importance. AIIMS New Delhi, the fore-runner institute, was established in 1956. Since then, 22 more institutes were announced. All India Institutes of Medical Sciences are being set up in various parts of the country in a phased manner as per budget announcements keeping in view gaps in tertiary healthcare infrastructures in different regions of the country and availability of funds. Six AIIMS are now functional at Raipur, Patna, Jodhpur, Bhopal, Rishikesh and Bhubaneswar. Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Ashwini Kumar Choubey, said that civil works on the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) project in Samba shall commence in the month of February 2020. Central Public Works Department and executing agency for the AIIMS project in Jammu, assured that the steps are afoot so that the works are carried out in a smooth manner. Now people of J&K are now eagerly waiting for these projects to reach completion so that people get the world class facilities in medical and health care.
