My partner was first person who noticed it: Glenn Maxwell

New Delhi, Dec 13 Australian superstar cricketer Glenn Maxwell, who took a surprise break from cricket to address his mental well-being, has spoken on the issue for the first time since then. The all-rounder stepped away from the game during Australia's Twenty20 series against Sri Lanka in October, returning to club cricket recently. Maxwell will soon be seen leading the Melbourne Stars in the club’s opening Big Bash League clash later this month. Maxwell has conceded that he was 'cooked' after spending a lot of time away from home due to 'four or five years being on the road'. "I’ve been getting back into the swing of things for a while. I think I was pretty cooked. I decided to take some time off and a big reason as to why I took that time away was because I was mentally and physically ruined from I think it was eight months on the road and living out of a suitcase," Maxwell recently told reporters. "That had probably been going on for four or five years being on the road. It just all caught up with me at that time and I really want to thank Cricket Australia, Cricket Victoria and the (Melbourne) Stars for giving me that space and having that time away from the game. "It was actually my partner who suggested I speak to someone, she was the first person who noticed it. Once I had that initial conversation it was a huge weight off my shoulders." Maxwell has played three Victorian Premier Cricket matches with club side Fitzroy Doncaster since and has taken part in some aspects of Victoria's Shield program.
