Ranchi, Oct 20 Ajinkya Rahane ended a 3- year wait for a Test hundred at home when the India vice-captain went past the 3-figure mark on Day 2 of the ongoing 3rd Test against South Africa in Ranchi. Ajinkya Rahane hit his 11th Test hundred and 2nd of 2019 wherein the seasoned campaigner has put behind his batting troubles and hit peak form. Rahane resumed batting on Sunday on his overnight score of 83 and got going with a cracking cover drive against South Africa pacer Anrich Nortje. Rahane got to his landmark in just 169 balls, having hit 14 boundaries and a six. This is only Rahane's 4th Test hundred at home as compared to his 7 on the road. Before Sunday, Rahane had not scored a hundred at home since hitting 188 against New Zealand in Indore on October 8, 2016. Rahane ended the 3-year and 16-Test wait with a stroke-filled hundred in Ranchi. Notably, only in August 2019, Ajinkya Rahane hit form and ended a 2-year wait for a Test hundred with a classy century against West Indies in North Sound, Antigua. Rahane had gone hundredless for 29 innings in Test cricket and more than 2 years in international cricket. In the ongoing Test in Ranchi, Ajinkya Rahane joined opener Rohit Sharma when India were reeling at 39 for 3 after a fiery spell of new-ball bowling from South Africa pacers on Saturday. India had lost Mayank Agarwal (10), Cheteshwar Pujara (0) and Virat Kohli (12) inside the 1st hour's play on Saturday but Rahane and Rohit combined to steady the ship. While Rohit Sharma took his time to get going, Rahane was positive from the word go. The vice-captain's intent early on in his innings helped put the pressure back on South Africa bowlers on Saturday. In fact, Ajinkya Rahane got to his fifty in just 70 balls -- his fastest fifty at home in Test match cricket. Rahane did not shy away from taking the attack to the South Africa attack and played some cracking drives and pushes, showing glimpses of his vintage self. Rahane's batting partner Rohit Sharma got to his 6th Test hundred as early as Saturday after going on a six-hitting spree.
