Man held for making hoax call at IGI Airport

The Delhi Police has arrested a 28-year-old man for allegedly making a hoax call on August 8 saying his wife was planning to trigger a bomb at the Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport.

Interrogation revealed that she was was going abroad for green pastures and in order to stop her from leaving the country, he had intentionally made the call to the IGI authorities.

The accused has been identified as Nasruddin, a tailor, from Bihar’s Sitamarhi district. He has been living in Chennai for the last 10 years.

According to Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Special Cell, on August 8, at around 9 PM, the Control Room of the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), based in Gurugram, received a call claiming that one passenger, named Zabina alias Rafiya, is a "fidayeen" member and was on her way to set off the bomb at the airport.

"The caller stated that he was speaking from Chennai and a lady namely Zabina has reached Delhi IGI airport to leave for Dubai or Saudi Arab and she can cause explosion in the flight. Immediately, the call was forwarded to Airport Security officials, Police Station IGI Airport and other agencies including Special Cell and all came into action," said the DCP.

"Following this threat, security was beefed up at the IGI airport and the red alert was issued. However, the call turned out to be a hoax and a criminal complaint was registered against the caller under section 506 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at Gurugram's Udhyog Vihar police station," said the DCP.

"The accused was arrested on Independence Day from Bawana. During interrogation, the accused revealed that on August 8, when he was in train on his way back to Chennai from Bihar, Zabina informed him telephonically that she was leaving to a foreign country for a better life. Nasrudeen made all out efforts to stop her but she did not agree," said the DCP.

"In the evening, when Nasrudeen reached maternal house of Zabina in Chennai, he came to know that Zabina is in Delhi and going abroad. He got frustrated and as a last chance to stop her, he searched the Delhi Airport number on Google and made the hoax call," said the DCP.

"The accused was produced before Gurugram Court on Saturday from where he was handed over to Gurugram Police," said the DCP.
