VB Chandrasekhar committed suicide due to financial strain, say police Chennai

Former India cricketer VB Chandrasekhar commited suicide by hanging at his house in Mylapore, Chennai on Thursday.
Chandrasekhar was found hanging from the ceiling of his bedroom at his residence in Mylapore. His wife reported the incident to the police and had stated that even after repeated knocks to the door, Chandrasekhar had not opened the door.
Chandrasekhar owned VB Kanchi Veerans Tamil Nadu Premier League and also ran a cricket academy in Velachery.
The police also confirmed that there was no suicide note in the room. Chandrashekar, it is believed, suffered losses as his TNPL franchise was not doing well.
Investigation officer Senthil Murugan said, "It is a case of suicide for now. Investigation is still underway. The body has been sent for post-mortem and we are awaiting the report. Chandrasekhar was under a lot of financial strain. He had a huge debt. He had invested Rs 3 crore in the Kanchi Veerans TNPL team. A month ago, he had received a notice from the bank."
The veteran cricketer had tea with his family last at 5:45 pm on Thursday before heading to his room where he was later found hanging dead.
BCCI on its twitter handle had posted, "BCCI regrets to inform that former India opener VB Chandrasekhar is no more. Our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and his fans."
Cricketers also took to social media to express their shock.
"Terrible news...VB...too soon. Shocking! Heartfelt condolences to his family and friends," wrote Anil Kumble.
"Deeply saddened and shocked to know about the demise of my good friend VB Chandrasekhar. Heartfelt condolences to his family. May his soul RIP," wrote VVS Lakshman.
"Very shocking to hear VB Chandrashekhar indian cricketer is no more.. very sad news .. very young to go.. rest in peace VB.. Big lose ?? condolences to the family ????" Harbanjan Singh.
