VIJAY GUPTA Jammu, July 16 Come Raksha Bandhan or Janamashthmi it brings happiness among youth, particularly in Jammu, which enjoy these festivals by flying kites along with families, friends and neighbours. Kite flying takes place on different occasions across the nation since years as tradition but after the introduction of the Chinese thread (Chinese Manja) it has started endangering not only human lives but birds and animals as well. The festivals spread happiness and peace in the society and celebrations should be peaceful and environment friendly. If same starts bringing death and destruction than people should stop celebrating such festivals. Kite flying is on different festivals is a tradition in Indians society but in Jammu it takes place on Raksha Bandhan and Janamashtmi. The Jammu has witnessed many tragic incidents in the recent years when many people have got tangled with the stray Chinese manja and got injured some of them critically. Chinese Manjha poses a great threat not only to people flying kites, but to bikers, scooterists and birds also. District Magistrate Jammu has also imposed ban on procuring stocking, sale and use of plastic/nylon strings generally known as “Chinese Manjha” but despite this it is available easily in the market. Many birds also get injured when tangled in these synthetic strings which inflicts severe injuries to them some of them even dies later on following injuries. The frequent use of the Chinese Manja will land many people into predicament and if the banned is not imposed strictly it is all set to endanger humans, birds and animals once again as Raksha Bandhan and Janamashthmi are approaching. Young Bites appeal the Jammuites to not use Chinese Manja for flying kites and similarly we appeal those selling Chinese Manja to refrain from selling this as it endangers human lives. Young Bites also request administration to strictly implement the ban imposed in Chinese thread and those found stocking or selling should be punished under law so that others stay away from such practices.
