VIKAS GUPTA Jammu, July 4 Doctors are next to God for humans on earth. Any person having any health issue immediately rushes to a doctor or any nearby hospital. In Jammu there is only one premier health institution i.e., Government Medical College and Hospital, Bakshi Nagar, Jammu. The doctors in GMC are working under tremendous pressure as it is the lone referral hospital in the province hence witnesses huge rush of patients. The government has provided accommodation to doctors working in GMC Jammu adjoining to Resham Ghar Colony. The said quarters are in very shabby condition following negligent attitude of the concerned authorities. The walls of these quarters have cracks and roofs have seepages which gives an ugly look to those residing in them as well as the occupants of these quarters feel themselves unsafe. Visiting to these quarters one can easily see cracked window panes, broken doors and jammed hinges but still many senior doctors and lecturers of GMC Jammu are putting up there risking the lives of their families as well. Sources said that all doctors who have been allotted government accommodation pay House Rent Allowance (HRA) which is adequate for the maintenance of these quarters. Moreover, there is no guard at the entry point nor these quarters have any CCTV for surveillance. These quarters even lack parking lots and doctors are forced to park their vehicles on the roads outside their quarters. In case any emergency call these doctors have to first find out the owners of the vehicles parked in front and rear of their car. Those doctors having good private practice have left these quarters and have moved to safer places but few seniors who want to serve poor lot of the society which rushes to GMC for treatment has been left at the mercy of the God. Their only fault is that they just want to serve but don’t want to earn. The Governor administration must take cognizance of the dilapidate condition of these quarters and immediately issue directions for its maintenance and renovation so that those serving the poor people of the society may feel secure.
