BHARAT BHUSHAN Jammu, June 25 Human–wildlife conflict refers to the interaction between wild animals and people and the resultant negative impact on people or their resources, or wild animals or their habitat. It occurs when growing human populations overlap with established wildlife territory, creating reduction of resources or life to some people and/or wild animals. The conflict takes many forms ranging from loss of life or injury to humans. We the humans are responsible for the man-animal conflict as we have destroyed their habitats and have forced them to enter residential areas. A video went viral on social media Monday, showing the leopard walking along a road in Chingam village of Chatroo surrounded by a lush, green forest. Some men can be seen walking close behind it while capturing the unusual sight on their mobile phones. The leopard is seen moving peacefully, unmindful of the presence of humans, and even walks past some cars whose occupants observe the animal from close quarters. The boys who were clicking photographs with the big cat were seemed to be dunderheaded. It was not daring act, infact was a scary. The leopard which was walking peacefully was being followed by these guys and if irritated one can imagine the result! We as humans should not behave like animals and must give them their space so that they may not enter into a conflict with us. If went on loose, the leopard could have killed those trying to pose close with the big cat. The animals have their own territory in case you find it in residential areas immediately inform the police or the officials of the wildlife for the safety of the animals as well as the safety of the humans. But don’t dare to go close to such a dangerous animal otherwise it would become disastrous.
