ER ABHA GUPTA Jammu, June 23 Sepoy Sudesh Kumar attained martyrdom in Poonch in Operation Parakram in the year 2003. YoungBites correspondent got an opportunity to interact with the brother of martyr to know about the early life and how life changes post martyrdom. Jia Lal while recalling his old days said, “they are three brothers and Sudesh was elder of three and father was a farmer. People living in borders develop the spirit of joining Army right from childhood. So I also joined Army like my elder brother. I was posted in Punjab and the day my brother was martyred, my unit told me to go to home. I was not aware why unit was compelling me to go home” “Parents always worried for Sudesh, but he never expressed his feelings and always said that he was fine and there was no danger to his life. On November 4, 2003 he was the part of Operation Parakram, and while fighting bravely, bullet hit him and he was killed”, he further adds. Sudesh was the first Army man to be martyred in his village, Battal Pallanwalla. Jia Lal is proud of his brother but he has a complaint also. He says that no minister spared time to attend the funeral of martyr. Jia Lal and family have made a memorial in memory of Sudesh Kumar, but he says that no minister, no one from society has time to pay floral tributes in the memorial. The MLAs, Sarpanch, bureaucrats should also come to visit the families of martyrs and should help them in sorting out various problems which they face in their life. At the end a small request to the society: “whenever you see a memorial of martyr, bow your head, he sacrificed his life for our sake. Never forget that the supreme sacrifice was made for us”.
