SUBODH BHASIN Jammu, June 14 With the increase in temperature, the incidents of fire have increased which are giving sleepless nights to the personnel of Fire Services. According to reports the department is receiving around fifty complaints from different places. As the number of incidents is increasing the department has put its men and machinery on high alert. The main reason for increase in fire incidents is hot weather condition during which the temperature sometimes raises upto 45 to 47 degrees making things more vulnerable. The situation will continue till rainy season sets in. Overheating can be prevented in houses and offices by avoiding simultaneous use of multiple electrical appliances and through usage of quality electrical equipments. Proper housekeeping and waste management are extremely important. Fires during such high temperatures should not be left burning at heaps of garbage which can further spread to other places. Careless disposal of cigarettes, improper waste monitoring and overheating of electrical equipments are some of the major causes of most fires outbreaks. As per the details the department has only 1,700 fire-fighters to cater the need of entire State, which is 1/3 of the total requirement. There is also acute shortage of fire tenders in Jammu region which have only 25 fire tenders. The number is not enough to tackle with the situation as the temperature is rising with the passage of every season. The government of Jammu and Kashmir has to strengthen its fire services to cater the present need in Jammu.
