Police organizes awareness programme on drug abuse

Sayed Kamran Surankote, June 13 Surankote Police today organized an awareness programme on drug abuse for the students of Government Higher Secondary, Bufliaz under the supervision of SDPO Surankote, DySP Krishan Singh. Around 450 students including boys and girls attended the programme organized by the police by the directions of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Poonch, Ramesh Angral. A lecture on the subject was delivered by Dr Dr. Tafeez Khan who is a counselor at drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centre Poonch. He told the students about the illeffects of the drugs on the health, family and society as well. DySP Ashok Singh while addressing the students said that drug addiction has become a major challenge in Jammu and Kashmir and has become an epidemic which is spoiling the future of the nation. He urged upon the younger generation to remain away from those trying to drag them into such activities. He also urged the students to report such matters to the police immediately so that those spreading such things can be dealt with iron hands. The officials of the police requested the youth to support the police in eradicating drug menace from the society as youth can only bring the change. The students were also told that a centre for deaddiction has been opened in Poonch and if they find any of their friend or relative fallen addict must be taken to the centre with hesitation.
