WASEEM BUTT Kishtwar, June 13 Warwan which is termed as the paradise of Kisthwar in Chenab valley is without basic amenities even after 71 years of independence courtesy political apathy. Warwan is a remote area within Kishtwar constituency but has remained underdeveloped as none of the leader ever took interest in visiting there or providing basic amenities to the people of the area. As per the ground reports collected by our correspondent there is no road connectivity to this beautiful place surrounded by mountains. The locals have to travel on foot several kilometers to reach their destination. The locals alleged that during emergencies they carry kilometers together to patients or pregnant women on their shoulders to reach motorable road from there they are shifted to District Hospital Kisthwar and incase they are further shifted to Government Medical College Jammu for specialized treatment. The road connecting Warwan with Kishtwar is too in dilapidated condition and is not fit for vehicular movement following which frequent accidents take place. Proper road connectivity is considered to be key to development of any area but it is still a distant dream for Warwan— which is not even connected by all weather road to district headquarter Kishtwar. The locals said that the construction of the road was started around a decade ago but the work is still in abeyance and they don’t know whom to blame. The educational system is completely defunct as the only Government Higher Secondary School established decades ago is running without requisite infrastructure. There are no means of employment and the students drop out at High School level of after Higher Secondary as they don’t have enough resources to stay in rented accommodations at Kishtwar or Anantnag to pursue higher studies. The power scenario is also worst in the area. There is no drinking water supply and the residents fetch water from springs for drinking purpose. There is acute shortage of essential commodities also including LPG Gas, Govt Ration etc. The majority of population of this area belongs to Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs) and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) is being deprived of various social welfare schemes of the government meant for the upliftment of these communities. The politicians and the bureaucracy has left these people at the mercy of the God.
