Sipahi Mangal Das attained martyrdom in Uri in the year 2015. While patrolling and keeping eagle’s eye on infiltrators, Mangal Das slipped from a mountain, the injuries were so severe that he succumbed to his injuries.
YoungBites correspondent got an opportunity to interact with the wife of martyr to know about the early life and how life changes post martyrdom.
‘Veer Nari’ recalls that she got married to Mangal Das and she was very happy to become the wife of a ‘fauji’. After marriage she spent quality time with her husband but this happiness was short lived. Just after 3 years of marriage, he lost her husband.
It was a difficult time for Ashu, as her son was just six months old that time. Unfortunately due to less education, she was offered a Class IV job, which she denied.
She wants to build a memorial in the fond memory of her husband but unfortunately, she was denied a piece of land by her neighbor. She feels sorry for the society, bureaucrats, leaders who hardly spare any time to know what happens to the next of martyr, she says no one bothers, forget all, no one is helping her in building up the memorial for her late husband who sacrificed his life for the nation.
Veer Nari says that no MLA, no MP, no bureaucrat has ever come to visit them, but it is only Army who remembers them. Rajya Sainik Board has always helped from time to time.
The MLAs, Sarpanch, bureaucrats should also come to visit the families of martyrs and should help them in sorting out various problems which they face in their life.
At the end a small request to the society: “Many times, the wife of martyr is not very educated, hence she is not able to guide her children as a result the children are not able to get higher ranks in the Army, it is the duty of citizens to visit their families and help them in solving their problems. Tell the ‘Veer Naris’, Veer Mata’ that we are always with them. Help their children in career counseling. Give them respect. Bow heads whenever we meet them. Never forget that the supreme sacrifice was made for us”.
