ER ABHA GUPTA Jammu, Apr 21 Subash Chander(10 JAKLI) attained martyrdom in Manipur during an encounter in the year 2008. His unit was in Manipur when there were reports of presence of militants in some area, Subash Chander fought bravely but unfortunately lost his life in militant flush out operation. YoungBites correspondent got an opportunity to interact with the wife of martyr to know about the early life and how life changes post martyrdom ‘Veer Nari’ recalls that she got married at a very young age when she just cleared her 10th class in the year 2006. After marriage she spent 1.5 months with her husband and later he got posted in Samba and then Manipur. It was very sad to hear that she could not celebrate even a single festival with her husband. On August, 2008, the brave soldier was martyred in the militant flush out operation in Manipur. Veer Nari says that it was a very tough time for her, as her son was just 1 year old, but she thanks her family, relatives who took good care of her. But she hardly remembers any leader, bureaucrat, Sarpach ever visited her house. Every year she celebrates “Shaheedi Diwas’ of her husband, but no leader, bureaucrat or Panch, Sarpanch ever come to celebrate the martyrdom of the brave soldier. Veer Nari says that no MLA, no MP, no bureaucrat has ever come to visit them, but it is only Army who remembers them. Rajya Sainik Board has always helped from time to time. She was not given the Ex gratia of Rs 5 Lakh which is given to the martyred soldier, the reason being that Subash Chander was not martyred in J&K. Not only this, she could not get job as per SRO 43 for the same reason. The MLAs, Sarpanch, bureaucrats should also come to visit the families of martyrs and should help them in sorting out various problems. At the end a small request to the society: “Many times, the wife of martyr is not very educated, hence she is not able to guide her children as a result the children are not able to get higher ranks in the Army, it is the duty of citizens to visit their families and help them in solving their problems. Tell the ‘Veer Naris’, Veer Mata’ that we are always with them. Help their children in career counseling. Give them respect. Bow heads whenever we meet them. Never forget that the supreme sacrifice was made for us”.
