SUBODH BHASIN Jammu, Apr, 17 From jobs and nationalism to religion and issues of farmers the Lok Sabha election 2019 is the biggest power game known to all with about 900 million voters participating in the biggest democratic exercise. 2014 was a remarkable year for India. The BJP emerged victorious with an absolute majority and Congress faced the worst defeat. BJP-led NDA made huge gains across the country. Incredibly, the BJP crossed the 272 marks comfortably on its own. In the past four years under the unpredictable and surprising events which have carried both, positive as well as negative impacts. But as a whole strong ‘Modi wave’ was seen all over the nation with the taglines like “Ab Ki Baar Modi Sarkar”, “Main Bi Chowkidar” besides several others. Modi government came to power in 2014, and since then, it has launched several schemes, initiatives and some of the old schemes have been restructured. To began with the announcement of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) aimed to encourage the habit of banking among Indian Citizens, especially from rural class, with a appeal from Prime Minister urging people to open a savings bank account with zero balance requirement. By 2015 the PMJDY proved to be the largest financial inclusion program in the world with 11.5 crore households who opened bank accounts first time with additional facilities like overdraft of Rs 5,000 for Aadhar linked bank accounts, issuing Ru- Pay debit card with 1 lakh personal accident insurance cover and life cover of 30,000 and many more, “Make in India” Campaign was launched on 25th September 2014 to boost the business industry in India and also inviting foreign companies to invest in the Indian market. “Make India” was launched to boost domestic production and to reduce India’s overdependence on foreign countries. With the announcement of Swach Bharat Abhiyan aimed to make India clean and free from open defecation gained mass popularity as Sachin Tendulkar, Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Anushka Sharma, Amitabh Bachchan, etc joining the campaign with a broom in hand. Then NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India) came in 2015 as a big step with the role of the think tank of the government to bring in fresh ideas. in April 2018, the government announced that all villages in the country had an electricity connection, a huge step towards universal household access. In particular, one of the greatest success stories in access to energy in 2018 was India completing the electrification of all of its villages of which India has been the star performer. The year 2016 witnessed a huge wave of shock with the Uri surgical strike and demonetization. Indian army commandos crossed the Line of Control to carry out surgical strikes in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK). The attack, which happened on the intervening night of September 28-29, killed 38 terrorists and dismantled various terror camps. The strikes were carried out to avenge Pakistan's attack on Uri that killed 19 Indian Army Soldiers. India's announcement of the claimed raid on 29 September marked the first time that the government had publicly acknowledged its forces crossing the Line of Control. The surgical strikes started around 12:30 am on the intervening night of September 28-29, 2016, and went on for about 4 hours. The surgical strike by the Indian army made every Indian proud. Although demonetization took the nation with surprise and shock, as 500 and 1000 rupee banknotes brought confusion and distress among people but as the move of demonetization was originally intended to weed out black money, it was by and large appreciated by masses. Although as per reports, the GDP rate dropped from 7.9% to 5.7% in April-June 2017. Looking at the positive impact of demonetization the RBI reports stated that the detection of fake notes of denomination of 500 and 1000 decreased after demonetization and the black money amounting to nearly three lakh crore, which had stayed outside the banking system, was brought back into the banks after demonetization. Bringing in the GST (Goods and Service Tax), a unified tax system for the entire nation, was the second brave move after demonetization. The coming of GST fostered transparency in business transactions. More and more businesses signed up for GST. This tax reform aimed at putting an end to tax evasion. GST has removed restrictions on the movement of goods within the country, streamlined the distribution system, ensured single tax law for the whole nation. Of late as GST involves digital processes, many businesses are taking time to understand the process. Moreover, the registration process is cumbersome, as the firms are required to register themselves in all the states. It was in the year 2018, 23rd September another scheme Ayushman Bharat Yojana (National Health Protection Scheme) was launched to cover 10 crore families with health insurance of five lakh rupees per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization in both government as well as private hospitals In the current year 2019, the BJP government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi unfailingly again surprised the Nation with the Balakot air strike which was conducted by the Indian air force on the Jaish-e-Mohammad facility in Pakistan, as a reaction to the Pulwama attack, and by launching of ASAT (Anti Satellite Missile), making India the fourth nation after the US, China and Russia, to have this technology. Even though the Modi government took various progressive steps for the nation but as it is widely said “There are always pros and cons to any party in power” and issues like unemployment, smart city projects, crisis of farmers, escape of financial fugitives who have been out of India, Ram temple in Ayodhya, repealing Article 370 and introducing Uniform Civil Code remain unfulfilled and have now find a place in the 2019 manifesto of the BJP, but voters have to take careful study of the entire scenario before deciding whom to vote.
