At a young age of 33 years, when the youngsters were enjoying Valentine’s Day, this brave heart sacrificed his life for his motherland. YoungBites correspondent got an opportunity to interact with the wife of martyr to know about the early life and how life changes post martyrdom. ‘Veer Nari’ recalls that she got married at the age of 21 years in the year 2013 and she says that she was the daughter of Army personnel hence was very happy to be married to a Fauji. After marriage she with her husband went to Jaipur and there they were gifted with their bundle of joy, a beautiful baby girl. There after he served in Siachin Glacier also. Siachin is called desert of snow, where temperature dips at -70 Degree C, but our soldiers bravely face every challenge. Ravi Kumar successfully completed his tenure in Siachin. After Siachin, he was deployed in 31 RR. In the year 2017, January, Ravi Kumar came for his last holiday to meet his family. The day before he got martyred, he talked with his daughter for one hour but unfortunately that was his last talk with his daughter. In the month of February 2017, Ravi Kumar and his Unit got information about presence of militants in Bandipora, Hajin area. He and his unit went for the operation, the unit fought bravely but unfortunately he got martyred in the encounter. Veer Nari says that when her husband attained martyrdom, her daughter was just 3.5 years old. Veer Nari says that no MLA, no MP, no bureaucrat has ever come to visit them, but it is only Army who remembers them. Rajya Sainik Board has always helped from time to time. She wants that her daughter should also join Army. The MLAs, Sarpanch, bureaucrats should also come to visit the families of martyrs and should help them in sorting out various problems. At the end a small request to the society: “Many times, the wife of martyr is not very educated, hence she is not able to guide her children as a result the children are not able to get higher ranks in the Army, it is the duty of citizens to visit their families and help them in solving their problems. Tell the ‘Veer Naris’, Veer Mata’ that we are always with them. Help their children in career counseling. Give them respect. Bow heads whenever we meet them. Never forget that the supreme sacrifice was made for us”.
