Hav Tara Chand attained martyrdom in Sunderbani due to cross border firing in 2003. YoungBites correspondent got an opportunity to interact with the wife of martyr to know about the early life and how life changes post martyrdom.
‘Veer Nari’ recalls that she got married in the year 1989 and she was very happy to be married with a Fauji. She says that her husband remained with her for 2 months after marriage and there after he left to join his duty in Madras. In many places like Bhopal, Ferozpur, Merrut she accompanied her husband and the memories of those days were still fresh in her mind. Those days there were no phones so most of the contacts were done through the letters which she has still kept with her asset of her life. Wyaso Devi feels lucky as she had spent many festivals like Karwachauth, Diwali with her husband.
Veer Nari says that when her husband attained martyrdom, her kids were very small, elder son was 8 years old and the younger son was 3.5 years old. It was a very difficult time for her but due to support of her family she was able to sustain her life. Unfortunately she did not get Ex gratia of Rs 5 Lakh from govt. as per rule if the serving person is killed in militant operation then only his family can get the ex gratia amount. She was given Rs 22,000 only.
Her younger son has also joined Army and she is proud of the fact that her son is also serving Indian Army like his father.
Wyaso devi says that MLA’s, Sarpnach quiet often come to meet the family. She says that Army never forgets. She also appreciates the efforts of Rajya Sainik Board.
The govt is developing peace stations for the army personnel where they could take their families also. This is indeed a very good step and the govt should construct more such peace stations so that the army personnel could take their families along with them.
The bureaucrats should also come to visit the families of martyrs and should help them in sorting out various problems.
At the end a small re quest to the society: Please visit the martyr families at their home. Ask the ‘Veer Naris’, Veer Mata’ that we are always with them. Help their children in career counseling. Give them respect. Bow heads whenever we meet them. Never forget that the supreme sacrifice was made for us.
