The nature of students' experience in school is influenced not only by the quality of instruction, but also by the school's policies and practices and streams allotted to them depending upon the infrastructure availability.
Students of all ages approach school with a positive spirit, and they expect to find success and fulfillment there, so the policies and practices affecting them must be clear, fair, and likely to contribute to student learning But shockingly there are several schools in Jammu which are cheating the students by offering them stream without proper affiliation.
Majority of private schools situated on the outskirts of different districts of the Jammu region are openly teaching the streams other than allotted to them. Even Some private schools which were allowed to teach subjects only in arts were running science and commerce streams and vice versa that too without having proper infrastructure and affiliation for the said courses.
The instances of not adhering to the prescribed courses came during a scrutiny of applications of educational institutes by the board regarding their recognition/affiliation, it came to the fore that some of them were teaching subjects in streams which were not allotted to them.
Soon after the cases were reported, the affiliation committee of the board swung into action and prepared a list of erring institutes indulging in the malpractice. More than 20 educational institutes in all districts of Jammu division were fined for running streams illegally and were also warned of disaffiliation.
Taking a tough stance against schools which are teaching subjects in streams other than those allotted to them, the J&K State Board of School Education (JKBOSE) then decided to impose fine of Rs 1 lakh on all those institutes which are involved in this malpractice. Earlier, the erring institutes were fined up to Rs 30,000 and now the fine has been increased manifold.
It was also decided by the authorities to include introduction of an online application for private schools to apply for affiliation and details of all educational institutes will now be uploaded on the website of the board.
Further a committee will be formed to look into all matters related to affiliation of private educational institutes and a quarterly calendar will be formulated for the conduct of affiliation meetings to resolve all pending cases.
