Pulse Polio campaign held at Reasi

HIMANSHU SHARMA Reasi, Mar 10 District Administration Reasi, started an immunisation round of pulse polio from District Hospital here today. The campaign started with Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Indu Kanwal Chib administering polio drops to kids at the hospital. It is pertinent to mention that India is already polio-free, yet the campaign aims to eliminate any chance of the spread of polio virus by immigrants from Pakistan and Bangladesh, where polio still persists. DC Reasi said that although the nation is polio-free, still there is a need to ensure that no untoward case of polio emerges. Chief Medical Officer, PS Jaral told media persons that 364 polio booths have been set up throughout the district. Total 80 officials are supervising teams of 1600 ground workers who started as early as 4 am to vaccinate kids from remotest areas of the district. In addition to polio booths, 18 transit and 12 mobile camps are vaccinating to ensure maximum outreach. The drive aims to target 63932 kids, of 0-5 years of age, of the district. Left-out kids are to be immunised through door-to-door campaign.
