Women Electoral conference held to mark International Women’s Day

Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Indu Kanwal Chib chaired Mega Women Electoral Conference on occasion of the International Women's Day at the district headquarters here today. The conference was organised by the district SVEEP Cell Over 500 women attended the conference which included teachers, Anganwadi workers/helpers, ASHA workers, panchs, sarpanchs and locals.
A special counter was also established for the Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machine awareness among female voters in which live demo was also given. The participants were also briefed by the SVEEP Resource persons about the importance and participation in election in an interactive session.
ACD Reasi, Dr Sunil Sharma; Deputy District Election Officer, Sanjal Badyal; DPO Reasi Parvinder Kour; BDO Reasi; Sanjeev Sharma and CDPO Reasi Anjum Ganai among various others were also present on the occasion.
Terming women as backbone of society, DC Indu Kanwal Chib said any democracy needs equal participation of women in order to be truly democratic. She further added that women need democracy if they are to change the systems and laws that preclude them and the society as a whole, from attaining equality. She also congratulated women for their overwhelming participation in the recently held panchayat elections across the district.
SSP Reasi, Nisha Nathyal, while speaking on the occasion said that women are adept in handling domestic affairs as they participate in the decision-making of the house and it is time for them to come out in large numbers and take part in the decision making process of the state too.
A symposium on “More She Votes; Stronger the Democracy” was also organised on the occasion in which the participants highlighted women’s role in the government. Participants were also given prizes by the DC and SSP on the occasion.
Mass pledge was also administered to the participants to ensure the electoral participation of their relatives, family members and friends. A special Electoral Registration Counter was also established for women at the mini secretariat.
