As if incessant fog and plummeting temperatures are not enough cause for concern for parents, many private schools have already started conducting classes asking the students for not wearing the uniforms.
Due to lack of proper monitoring, some private schools in various zones of the district were reportedly functioning on Tuesday. Despite government announcing winter break in the, various private school managements have paid no heed to the order and have kept their schools running.
Although an order by the education department for schools (both government and private) to hold winter vacation for Classes I to VIII from January 1 to 16, some private schools are still functioning.
In view of the cold conditions in the Jammu region, the department had ordered the closure of schools wef January 1.
Parents, on the other hand, are troubled with the idea of sending their children to school in the biting morning cold. "While 90 per cent of schools are closed, few are reopening on Monday, Tuesday and it is very troubling. There has been a spurt in winter ailments, and in such conditions it becomes difficult for us to drop our children to school in the morning," said Rajeev Sharma, a parent.
Even majority of the schools under the Vijaypur and Purmandal blocks of Samba district remained open on Tuesday.
“During summer vacation too, many private schools were found open. It was only after surprise visits by the authorities that these were closed,” said Mohan Lal, a parent from Raya village.
While talking to Young Bites correspondent, a parent whose has enrolled his ward in private school said that the school administration forced their children to attend the classes even after the winter break has been announced. After the complaints four to five private schools in the Vijaypur block which were functioning on Tuesday have been instructed by the team to comply with the orders.
However, the education department has warned that defaulting schools will be taken to task if they fail to keep shut as directed. "If schools start conducting classes, action will be taken against them.
