In order to give boost to the tourism and felicitate tourist at Mansar and Surinsar lakes luxurious battery-operated cars are finding the way, giving thurst to the tourism potential and the main purpose is to allow tourists, especially children, enjoy the ride and keep a check on carbon footprints.
Although Mansar and Surinsar lakes in the Shivalik Mountains are facing controversy due to existential threat, yet the tourist visting the lake appreciate the decision of authorities.
Luxurious battery-operated cars are being introduced by the wildlife department and Surinsar Mansar Development Authority (SMDA) as part of “eco-tourism” promotion amid rising of eyebrows about the utilization of huge funds when the basic infrastructure is crying for attention.
Contrary to the operational of Luxurious battery-operated cars locals demanded that the authorities must have spend the available funds for up gradation of basic facilities. Questioning the intent of authorities Ex. Dy.A.G Dinesh Singh Jamwal said that at a time when at Mansar and Surinsar lakes are crying for facilities like sewage treatment plant due to increasing level of pollutants, what is the fun for these?
He added that these luxurious battery-operated cars introductions will not solve such issues and can be delayed until basic infrastructure is developed and there is urgent need to invest in for sewage treatment as water bodies are facing threat.
Mansar Lake is situated to the East of Jammu city at about 23 kms from Samba District at Channi Mansar. Mansar Lake is one of the Largest Fresh Water lakes and is classified as one of the biggest wetlands of India. A per the reports three battery cars would be first introduced by the concerned authorities around the Mansar which is largest freshwater lake in the Shivaliks. Although one car has already reached the site and put on trial and operational modalities are being formulated to operate these. In the coming months similar arrangement for luxurious battery-operated cars will be made for the Surinsar lake in coming months.
It is worthwhile to mention here that the twin Surinsar and Mansar lakes fall within the Surinsar-Mansar wildlife sanctuary situated between the Shivalik and Jandhra ranges covering a vast area in Udhampur, Samba and Jammu district. These lakes have been brought under the National Wetland Conservation Programme.
