Steep increase in prices of essential commodities is enough to worry a person. One would think about the ensuing festive season and the worries would double as the monthly budget for a household is no more sufficient.
Prices have risen sharply after a hefty hike in petrol and diesel prices. The cascading effect of diesel price hike is leaving many households high and dry. To make matters worse, domestic LPG cylinder prices too have gone up steeply. It is tough for a middle class family to manage things when prices are hitting the roof. The rise in transportation costs due to the spurt in freight charges announced by goods transport agencies had an impact on prices of many commodities. In tune with the rise in transportation costs, prices of all essential commodities i.e fruit, vegetables, rice, pulses, edible oils etc have shot up immensely. But as these are all essential commodities, it is getting hard to plan and implement monthly budget for a common man. It is better not to mention the plight of daily wage earners and senior citizens, who find it difficult to meet the rising expenditure. Earning a meager amount per day, many labourers are forced to borrow loans at high interest rates to cater to their children’s education and day to day needs. The continuous hike in prices of essential commodities has broken the back bone of the common man. The Govt. is mum and has nothing to speak. Common man needs to fulfil its basic needs at the priority basis and other issues have second place at its list of priorities. All other daily need items like vegetable fruits are beyond the reach of common man.Although govt has distributed free gas connections but due to massive hike in LPG cylinder common man is unable to fill those cylinders for domestic use. Presently the common man is living a stressful life bearing burden of massive hike of essential commodities and his life has become a hell. Nobody wants such kind of draconian situation in which a common man even after struggling for whole day can't earn enough to have feed for him and his family. The consumers across J&K are badly hit due to sky rocketing prices of essential commodities in their day to day life. The increase in freight charges will escalate transportation costs which will impact the final price of products. The common man will have to bear the brunt and costs. Already reeling under the stress the steepest ever hike in prices, consumers would now have to brace for a hefty rise in prices of essential commodities.
The cost of inputs for agriculture, fertilisers, pesticides, seeds etc have gone up. But the peasants are not getting remunerative prices. They are compelled to borrow money from private money lenders at high interests. Unable to repay their debts many farmers are committing suicide. In India, inflation or price rise is not just an economic concept but they are also a political tool.Common man has been worst hit by skyrocketing prices. It is because the people of lower strata are most severely affected by the rising prices, and if the price rise is in essential commodities, damage is more severe. Thus, the price rise is caused by several factors like hording, population explosion, low productivity, natural calamities and black marketing etc. Governments should take strict action against hoarding and black marketing and effectively enforcing the Essential Commodities Act to have a check in price hike.
