As illegal car parking goes unchecked, hundreds of private cars, bikes and commercial vehicles are parked on either side of the main roads resulting in major traffic mess in the area. Residents claim that illegal parking creates hurdles for free movement of traffic and pedestrians.
Despite narrow roads in the Jammu city people park vehicles on the both sides of roads without taking care of other people thus putting them to much inconvenience owing to traffic jam and there is hardly any space left for emergency vehicles. When vehicles are parked on both sides of roads leaving no space even to move even a single vehicle in between the two, living example can be seen while moving from Sarwal chowk to Vikas Nagar road.
One can see huge traffic jam especially during morning, afternoon and evening hours when vehicles parked on both sides of road creates havoc and confusion among pedestrians and persons driving vehicles, thus wasting lot of time while passing through that road. The district administration must take steps against people who were occupying roads by parking their vehicles on both sides of roads in major parts of the Jammu city. People also alleged that they face hardships because traffic in the town is not regulated. The administration is turning a blind eye to the traffic mess and traffic police seems to be in deep slumber. People urged upon the traffic police department to launch drive against the wrong parked vehicles and seize them under relevant sections of law. Heavy traffic is one of the major concerns for traffic mess and many factors are responsible for it that can be inefficient road design, lack of traffic regulations, unorganized maintenance, encroachment on the roads. Traffic police should crack down on traffic violators and against illegal parking on roadside. Many of these vehicles are parked on the roadside for long period creating hurdles in smooth movement of traffic.
