Irrespective of the fact that providing a healthy diet to the patients admitted in the hospitals is provocative of the authorities, yet the patients admitted in the Government Medical College and Hospital in Jammu are deprived of healthy and balanced diet.
The matter of fact is that patients are being served merely dry bread with vegetables. Astonishingly the same diet is being served to all the patients irrespective of their ailment and treatment.
Flouting all guidelines and the authorities are playing with the health of patients who are forced either to rely on the bread being served or purchase it from the canteen.
Talking to Young Bites Correspondent Sanjay Kumar an attendant from Bishnah said that his father was admitted with infection in liver and he is being served with bread and oily spicy vegetable.
He added that although we belong to poor farmer family we refused to take the diet being provided in the hospital as it will have adverse effect on the liver.
It is worthwhile to mention here that from past few months patients are deprived of milk in their breakfast and the eggs are not being given for almost four years.
Attendants of the patients allege that it appears that authorities are hand in glove with canteen owner and the diet supplier.
They allege that all this is being done to benefit the canteen owner without recognizing the fact that poor patients are being suffered a lot. The sorry state of affairs is not confined to milk and egg but the attendants also complained about sub-standard food being served by the caterer.
Rajeev Sharma while narrating a tale of affairs said that step motherly treatment is given to the patients of Jammu as high protein diet like eggs, ,eat, milk are being given to patients in Kashmir hospital.
Questioning the authorities he asked why always the people of Jammu especially the patients are forced to deprive of prescribed diet which include two-times milk.
A doctor on condition of anonymity said that healthy diet to the patients is very necessary, and as such milk and eggs are basic to regain after surgery and during post treatment, as they require more nutrients and proteins to recover at an earliest.
It is a matter of concern that GMC &H being premier health institution in Jammu, the administration of 500 bedded hospital has no money to buy milk for patients, which clearly exposes the tall claims of the authorities for providing better health care.
