New Delhi, Aug 21
The "ashes" of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will be brought to Jammu on Wednesday by Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh and BJP State President Ravinder Raina, for further immersion in the rivers across the State.
Dr Jitendra Singh and Raina will carry the “Asthi Kalash” from the union capital by air flight, which will arrive at Jammu airport around 3 PM in the afternoon, where it will be received by State BJP leaders and party Karyakartas, who will then carry the same to the J&K BJP headquarters at Mukherjee Bhawan, Trikuta Nagar, before proceeding further for immersion of "ashes" in the river Tawi.
Arrangements are also being made for the immersion of the "ashes" in river Jhelum in Srinagar and river Sindhu in Leh as well.
Earlier on Sunday, the immersion of Vajpayee's "ashes'' was carried out with full religious rituals at Haridwar by the family members of Vajpayee, who were accompanied by union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and BJP National President Amit Shah. After the conclusion of the rituals at Haridwar, the ashes are now being carried to different parts of the country for immersion in rivers across India.
Pertinently, Vajpayee has a huge following in Jammu, which he had been frequently visiting over the last six decades. Recalling the earlier decades, Dr Jitendra Singh had written in the obituary note soon after Vajpayee's death, "In those days, there was no internet or electronic media, but I vividly remember that many of our college-mates, who did not subscribe to our ideology, would come over to his (Vajpayee's) public rallies, just to pick up speaking skills from his distinct style of oratory."
