Withstanding massive awareness campaigns and enforcement activities fatalities due to road accidents in the state have seen no sign of let up.
The callousness attitude of authorities towards controlling road accidents along highways always remain in question and the frequent road accidents almost every month has again raised question about the non serious approach adopted by the authorities
Few months the Union Ministry for Road Transport and Highways has put a question mark on the professional conduct and integrity of the traffic police cops of Jammu and Kashmir.
Union Ministry has virtually further dented already bruised image of the traffic police of Jammu and Kashmir. Traffic Cops who are often found hyperactive and even at times harassing school going students, female car and two wheeler drivers have been shown in very poor light in a report prepared by the Transport Research Wing (TRW) of Union Ministry for Road Transport and Highways.
It is worthwhile to mention here that on 22nd March 2018, 16 Nowshera school students injured in road accident in Reasi, on Mrach 28, 7 people were injured in road accident in J&K’s Reasi district, on April 6 At least 3 died and eighteen pilgrims of Shiv Khori shrine have sustained injuries in a road mishap at Kanda area on Bhambla-Teryath road in Reasi, In the month of June on 14th a woman was killed and 21 people injured in road accident in Reasi, on July 12, 2018two persons were killed when a load carrier skidded off a hilly road and fell into a stream near Chamayra in Reasi.
The list of road accidents alone in Reasi district seems no ending in past few months, as on July 15 2018, 7 persons were killed and 45 injured tragic road mishap at Sehadbaba area of district Reasi district.
In the the ongoing month on August 8th a woman was Dead and 25 persons were injured in Reasi when a rashly driven minibus skidded off the road and turned turtle near Panassa village in Reasi and on 18th of August, One person was killed, while 20 others were injured when the mini-bus they were traveling in rolled down into gorge near Kakriyal on Katra Domail road.
Talking to Young Bites correspondent Satish Kumar resident of Puni said that there seems to be no end to the accidents in Reasi district as authorities have miserably failed to learn any lessons from the day to day accidents.
He further added that it seems authorities are hand in glove with the untrained drivers who are overlooking over loading and rash driving putting lives of people in danger.
