Tourists and pilgrims who are eagerly waiting for Mahamaya-Peerkho cable car project have to wait more as the project failed to get completed within time period. The prestigious project which is considered to be a major tourist attraction has missed another deadline of July.
The people of Jammu have to wait for couple of months more as, it will now be operational in mid-October this year. It is worthwhile to mention here that the project worth Rs 75 crore was floated in 1995 when a cable car was planned to be operated from Bahu Fort to Mubarak Mandi Complex. Later, when Mubarak Mandi and Bahu Fort were declared protected monuments, the project was modified and relocated.
The J&K Cable Car Corporation, which is the executing agency of the project, has already conducted the trial run of the first phase on April 27 from Bahu Fort to Mahamaya. But the second phase, which was scheduled to be completed in July, has been extended up to October.
Developed in two phases, phase Ist is from Peer Kho (near Mubarak Mandi) to Mahamaya Park ( length 1137 mts) and Phase II from Mahamaya Park to Shahbad near Bagh-e-Bahu, (length 453 mts) has been taken up in hand at the cost of Rs 75 crore. The work on this project is on progress and expected to be completed in the month of October.
Talking to Young Bites Correspondent Rajeev Sharma said that the project owes a great importance to the people of Jammu as well as for the tourist visiting Jammu.
He added that the prestigious will boost the tourism and it will be the second cable car project in the state after a gap of 30 years. The first cable car project of the state was commissioned in 1988 at Gulmarg, Kashmir.
The cable car project is aimed at connecting heritage sites across the city. The project is being set up to connect heritage sites of Bahu fort, Bagh-e-Bahu Garden and Aquarium to Mubarak Mandi Heritage Palace, Mahamaya Temple and Peerkho Temple.
