Time to Time the Central Government along with State Government and various sports bodies like Olympic Association (IOA) and the National Sports Federation aims to bring progressive change in sports to achieve Excellence in Sports at National and State levels, thereby encouraging the sports potential and strengthen Sports and Physical Education to be integrated more effectively with the Education Curriculum.
Time apart there is dire need to bring more changes at various levels so that desired results can be achieved. The sports should be made compulsory in all academics curriculum as it will enable to explore the physical as well as mental abilities in children as well as youth apart from academics level.
Talking to Young Bites correspondent Vinnet Sharma said that there Sports Excellence centers should be setup in the every state as per the famous game of that particular State.
He further added that Sports Community Centers can also play a constructive role in channelizing the youth power, for this these centers should be set up in Block, district levels also.
In rural areas there is dearth of sports activities due to lack of infrastructure and to overcome this problem these centers can play pivotal role towards exploring the hidden sports talent and giving them right direction.
Harinder Singh said that if the sports is made compulsory in schools than those students who are unable to pursue their studies after 10th or 12th can explore possibilities in arena of sports. For that due attention should be given to the sports personalities to get job so that they can have their livelihood by adopting a career in sports.
It is worthwhile to mention here that the United Nations adopted the theme of “Sport for Development and Peace” in its Agenda in 2001, which demonstrated the close linkage between Sports development and Youth development, and Youth development and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals which emphasizes the need to integrate sport and physical education into the overall development agenda.
A need has, therefore, been felt to reformulate the National Sports Policy in more concrete terms, spelling out the specific measures required to be taken by the various agencies, which are involved, in various ways, in promoting sports in the country.
