IIT Delhi and AIIA to give 'scientific validation' to Ayurveda

To give a boost to the Ayurvedic system of medicine which is known for having no side effects as compared to other systems of medicines. To take an initiative All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) and IIT (Indian Institute of Technology)-Delhi have signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance research in the field of Ayurveda, that would aim to give “scientific validation” to the ancient medical science and integrate it with technology.
Under which projects would be launched that would aim to give “scientific validation” to the ancient medical science and integrate it with technology. The projects would be funded by the Ayush Ministry . The MoU was signed on sidelines of two-day conference on ‘Raising towards Excellence’ held at New Delhi.Under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the faculties of IIT Delhi and AIIA will work together in the projects to look at ways to integrate technology with Ayurveda. They have underlined the need to work towards promoting the benefits of Ayurveda to a worldwide audience. The heads of National Ayush Institutes who would brainstorm on ways to induce modernity in Ayurveda.
As of part of MoU, AIIA will invite technological experts from IIT Delhi for research in ancient Indian medicine. IIT Delhi does not have medical facility. It was the idea of Ministry of AYUSH to utilize technological expertise of IIT Delhi for further research in ancient Indian medicine. It is also planning to invite professionals and representatives from IIMs (Indian Institutes of Management) to develop leadership skills that are necessary for gaining global recognition. Delhi based AIIA is apex institute for Ayurveda in the country under Ministry of AYUSH. It aims at bringing a synergy between traditional wisdom of Ayurveda and modern tools and technology. It offers postgraduate and doctoral courses in various disciplines of Ayurveda and focuses on fundamental research of Ayurveda, drug development, quality control, standardization, safety evaluation and scientific validation of Ayurvedic medicine. It also has 200 bed referral hospital for facilitating clinical research. Representatives of IIT, IIM Ahmedabad and AIIMS would also look at ways to improve Ayurveda education in our country.
