Hospitality to the tourists visiting J&K is considered to be essential for leaving an good impression and furthermore increasing the influx of tourists in the years to come.
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Nothing can describe the hospitality industry in Jammu and Kashmir better than Newton's law of motion.
As the heat in the plains of northern India pulls tourists to the hills towards the State of Jammu and Kashmir, they feel the heat of being fleeced everywhere.
As of now tourists are complaining about being cheated by the hotels and lodges as with the onset of tourist season in its peak, the hotel and lodges have increased the prices of rooms as well as other commodities manifolds.
Talking to Young Bites correspondent Sai Vishwanathan from Hyderabad who came to visit Jammu and Kashmir along with his family said that about week ago when we planned our tour and we confirmed the room charges from a particular hotel in Patnitop as Rs 1000/ per day but on reaching there we were surprised as we have been told to pay 2000/- per day. This is fleecing in the name of visiting a tourist place.
He further added that why authorities have failed to regulate and fix the charges, which otherwise give a bad name to the tourism industry in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
His wife added that we had no option but to listen to what we have been asked as it was heavily raining. Why there is no mechanism here to check abnormally high tariffs.
Another Tourist who came here from Ahemdabad said that I was looking for a luxury hotel in and around Kashmir to be booked for four days. To my surprise, the room tariff of a luxury hotel in Kashmir has gone upto Rs 3000 to Rs5,000 which is almost the double, what we enquired from the same hotel.
He added that this almost double the five-star hotels in Delhi and Mumbai and asked the Jammu and Kashmir tourism Department to keep eye on hotel fares to check exorbitant pricing, especially when the tourism season is at its peak.
As per the reports hundreds of touts are operating near taxi stands, railway stations and tourist places in the guise of guides, who are even not registered with the tourism industries and the touts are fleecing the tourist in connivance with the hotel industry and authorities.
