IGNOU fake degree racket puts question mark over its functioning

The scam at an IGNOU centre in Kathua district has put the career of about thousand of youth across the Jammu and Kashmir at stake and of late questions are being raised how IGNOU centers are flouting rules and regulations blatantly and are cheating the students of their hard earned money.
It is worthwhile to mention here that recently crime branch of Jammu and Kashmir police have exposed a scam in Kathua where fake IGNOU degrees were issued to as many as 4,000 students. The most astonishing fact of the scam is that neither of any students appeared in the examination.
A per the reports some persons at an IGNOU centre in Kathua were fraudulently not only giving admissions and conducting examinations but also are issuing degrees at the centre established in Billawar.
The Scam has sent a shock wave among the thousands of aspirants across the state of Jammu and Kashmir and are questioning the system being adopted by the IGNOU authorities as for as admissions and examination is concerned.
Talking to Young Bites correspondent Pooja Sharma said that I m working lady and this year I was about to take admission at one of the IGNOU centre but this scam has put a question about the dubious role of IGNOU centers.
IGNOU Regional Centre Jammu was started its operations in the year 1998 in response to an invitation from J&K Govt. to establish a Regional Centre for J&K in Jammu in order to help the downtrodden and unreached populace. But the way in which fake degrees are being issued to the candidates who have not even appeared in the exam the prestigious IGNOU regional centre has been under serious charges where involvement of some officials can’t be ruled out.
The most astonishing fact of the scam is that officials of IGNOU and post offices are involved in preparing fake answer sheets at regional centers.
The centre runs two admission sessions- in January and July and two examination sessions in June and December with enrollment of 800 to 1200 students.
This is not the first time that fake degree racket has been busted in Jammu and Kashmir, there were several instances in the past in which several study centers, of various universities were found to have issued fake degrees.
While issuing the fake degrees thousands of rupees were collected from the candidates and the money was embezzled through various channels.
