Jammu City which is now heading towards as proposed Smart City is being defaced by illegal hoarding and flex banners. These flex banners and hoarding belonging to different organizations, Schools, and coaching centers have occupied almost every nook and corner of Jammu city irrespective of rotaries, poles and streets. It is hardly any place where illegal hoarding, flex banners of different sizes continue to be a blot on the city.
Although the Jammu Municipal Authorities randomly remove several hoarding from poles and roads but now these hoarding are occupying space in the streets of Jammu. As most of the times the Jammu Municipal Authorities rarely visit the streets to remove these hoarding.
In spite of the fact that the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has imposed a ban on installation of hoardings on residential buildings, places of worships, hospitals, and educational institutions in the city. And several times the JMC seizes truck-loads of advertisement material during drive against these hoarding and warnings repeatedly issued to business establishments.
Talking to Young Bites Correspondent Vineet Angral said that merely giving warning to such establishments defacing city with illegal hoardings is not enough.
He further added that any organization or establishment defacing Jammu City with illegal hoarding, flex banners should be penalized under Law and their names should be made public so that in future such establishment refrains from defacing Jammu city.
The overcrowded markets and narrow lanes are dotted with illegal multiple hoarding on several single electric pole posing a threat to people passing and residing, as these hoarding can cause short circuit or lead to fatal mishap. Another resident of Gali Khlonia said that several times these hoarding were removed but these hoarding again appear within days.
People allege that the advertising agencies install these hoarding in the lanes or roads in late night or early morning knowing the fact that during day time they cannot do their illegal activity to deface the city with such flex hoardings. Satinder Singh a resident of Kacchi Chawni said that almost every area in Jammu city is overcrowded with hoardings, billboards and flex boards which can result in fatal distractions leading to accidents.
He added that several times loose hoarding fell on roads causing accident to the road user and opined that JMC must go tough against those who are responsible for causing obstruction with illegal hoardings
