The famous Flower Garden in Jammu at Bhour Camp, which was inaugurated by the then Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad on March 31, 2008, is crying for immediate attention.
Pertinent to mention here that the flower garden which was raised at a cost of Rs 8.5 crore on 563 kanals land on the pattern of Kashmir’s famous Tulip Garden, is crying for the callous attention of the authorities of floriculture department.
Despite the inauguration of this park, the ten year old flower garden is without tourists.
No sign boards in the area and nothing has been done for its promotion. Moreover, the road to park is in dilapidated conditions, which also add to the woes of few tourists, who used to visit here for the first time.
Locals says the government is least bothered about its maintenance, completing work and attracting tourists. Even after 10 years, Flower Garden is nowhere in any map. They alleged that crores of funds meant for the project have been swindled, which needs a probe.
Meanwhile, after getting complaints from the social media, secretary Floriculture, Talat Parvez Rohella visited the ‘Flower Garden’ Bohr Camp, Jammu and inspected the progress on Phase I of the park development project.
He also took detailed stock of the amenities to be developed on the 563 kanal park which in two phases by the Floriculture department.
This has to be mention here that there was a proposal to develop the park with more facilities including children’s park, rose garden, lake, waterfall, open air theatre and an extensive botanical garden equipped with various indigenous and exotic varieties.
But none of the officials is bothered about to provide more facilities to the tourists, who used to visit here to watch the various varies of the flower but finally disappointed due to the non- maintaince of the park.
“It is very essential to integrate component of physical activities with the parks for people of all ages and provide them with multifaceted recreational options so that parks re-emerge as centers for social gathering, exchange of ideas and learning, but the government is non- serious to provide such spots to the people as well as the tourists,” said Sushma Jamwal a local visitor from Jammu area.
