Although roadside eateries are cheap and widely accepted by almost every section of society for eatables particularly by poor and middle class families but their mushrooming has now become a cause of concern.
Although the JMC has taken serious notice of unregistered roadside vendors but their mushrooming in the evening goes unchecked and have become a headache for civic authorities and traffic police.
Most of the times we think about hygienic food but without acknowledging the fact about unhygienic, unhealthy and harmful food items these roadside eateries are serving and posing health hazard their mushrooming and quality check goes unchecked.
People are least bothered about the implications of eating this food and are having it normally.
These eateries are also obstructing traffic in the evening but are also turning road side space into a garbage and waste pit. As the evening fast approaches these eatery spots on many of the city's roads become busy with foodies descending here and there to savor the variety of eatables served by these road side eateries.
Talking to Young Bites Correspondent Dr SS Sambyal said that these unhygienic road side eateries are posing serious health hazards and one can get infected very easily by them. Stomach infection and abdominal pain are the instant problems that individuals might face after eating at road-side food stalls. Unhygienic food might lead to more serious problems like urinary tract infection, abdominal cavity infection, gastroenteritis, vomiting and stomach cramps, he added.
Most of these road sides are displaying the prepared food items without covering them. Rahul Jojra said that at least these roadside eateries should cover the eatables. Cooking on roadside with dust particles and smoke can cause problems for the people who eat from these stalls. He also said that they use cheap materials to make food in front of the customers and also use the same oil again and again but "we have nothing to say as they are providing food in a reasonable price".
Rajeev Sharma a resident of old Jammu city said that the water, food served on roadside fast-food joints are not hygienic, and can lead to food poisoning, infections and other serious diseases. Not only food but the place and the person serving the food are also failing in maintaining hygiene. These water used by these eateries for cooking, washing and serving purpose is contaminated which is harmful for the human body as their sole motive is to earn cheap bucks at the cost of unhygienic preparation and food served.
